Private Investment Company
Overview
The investment arm of a global shipping group partnered with DENTON to deliver a new London office that reflected their evolving brand and international status. Having grown through the acquisition and integration of smaller firms, the existing office no longer supported the company’s way of working, brand identity, or position as a leading global investment business.
The project brief focused on creating a contemporary, welcoming workspace that balanced privacy for partners with collaborative areas for visiting colleagues from port cities around the world.
The Challenge
The project required a workspace that addressed both operational and brand objectives:
- Deliver private offices for partners and visiting executives while maintaining a cohesive office layout
- Introduce a defined arrival and waiting experience to create a professional first impression
- Maximise daylight and openness across a deep floorplate
- Integrate design references from the company’s Scandinavian roots while interpreting a modern, London-based office aesthetic
- Provide informal collaboration areas and social spaces to replace the previous office’s lack of communal facilities
- A clear arrival and reception area to enhance first impressions and visitor experience
- Private partner and visiting offices designed for comfort, focus and natural light
- Open-plan work areas with extensive use of glazing to maintain openness and daylight penetration
- Social tea points and informal breakout spaces to encourage interaction and collaboration
- Scandinavian-inspired finishes and materials creating a lighter, brighter, and contemporary office environment
- 4,000 sq ft of contemporary office space tailored to an international investment business
- Private offices positioned for optimal natural light and privacy
- Central open-plan areas maximising daylight and connectivity
- Improved client and partner experience through enhanced arrival, meeting and social spaces
- Modern Scandinavian-inspired design applied throughout to support wellbeing and productivity
The Solution
DENTON created a considered office fit out that reflected the client’s refreshed brand and operational requirements.
Private partner offices were positioned along the perimeter to maximise access to natural light, while internal glazing and half-height partitions allowed borrowed light to flow into central open-plan areas. Scandinavian influences informed material selection and detailing. Timber panelling, light finishes and a calm, neutral palette were introduced to create a space that is both contemporary and grounded.
Purpose-built joinery was integrated into the design, including a display cabinet for a model ship, highlighting the client’s heritage and reinforced by bespoke lighting. The completed fit out creates a professional yet welcoming environment that supports focused work, collaboration and client hospitality.
The Results
The London office fit out has delivered a functional and visually refined workplace that aligns with the client’s brand and global operations:
The arrival area creates an immediate impression of RSM’s brand, featuring a timber slat wall and a striking logo set against the company’s midnight blue. Throughout the office, DENTON focused on acoustic performance, an essential consideration given the exposed services and open-plan layout. Horizontal acoustic rafts in RSM’s colours add vibrancy while controlling sound, and suspended acoustic screens help to subtly define zones and enhance comfort.
Meeting rooms were designed with layered acoustic treatments, including sound-absorbing carpet, PET wall panels for texture and warmth, and fabric ceiling rafts for further noise reduction. Collaboration was also central to the project’s delivery — particularly through coordination with RSM’s AV and furniture suppliers, where DENTON facilitated multiple workshops to ensure technology and workspace design integrated seamlessly.
